(Not a common scene, but it can happen in Philippines) I personally find these kind of situations to be a very meaningful and productive because both students are learning the language and culture at the same time, which may not be ordinarily happening in a regular class. These little discoveries should have impact on their better and deeper understanding and use of the language in relation to getting to know one’s culture as well.. □□□ □The buddy system was also a great opportunity for my students not just to practice speaking skills but also to take responsibility in assisting Waseda students. I chose students who have been to Japan for an exchange program to be buddies because I think they can more relate and understand the needs of a foreigner based on their experience as an exchange student also in Japan. I paired them with their kouhai, who are the next in line to apply for an exchange program, because it will also help me in all future preparations, once the main buddies graduate already. The buddies also have a very positive feedback because unconsciously, they get to know more our country and rediscover our own culture. I assigned these buddies to be the key persons in various activities with their kouhais. For example: in a one day trip, main buddies are assigned to look for a suitable place to bring WS, they need to research and make applicable itinerary, things to do, food to eat that must reflect Filipino culture and something that can be experience only in Philippines. Even the set up is in the Philippines, my students get to know more our country and rediscover our own culture because, they need to research and submit their suggestions and discuss among themselves, and decide which would be the best for everyone. In fact, most of my students have not been to the places we chose, so together with Waseda students, they find the experience more meaningful, and at the same time, a point of realization, especially, when they cannot answer question of WS about a particular place or food. My students thought, they could have prepared more and know more about our country. Consequently, I also noticed a very good result on developing collaboration skills among my students. Although there are various activities in the university where they can work together, this is one rare opportunity for sempai-kouhai to work together on a project outside the university, and creates a real world task where they
