If you do not have a WASEDA ID, you CANNOT register for courses. New students must obtain one before the start of course registration. Watch “Academic Orientation Video” to get an overview of course registration. https://www.waseda.jp/inst/cjl/en/students/registration/download/ For the detailed schedule and the credits required for you, please check this guidebook or the guidebook sent by your school. Take “CJL Level Check Test” before course registration. All Japanese courses are categorized by levels. Please choose your courses based on your test score. https://www.waseda.jp/inst/cjl/en/students/registration/placementtest/ There are nearly 200 Japanese language courses, which are largely categorized into “Comprehensive Course (Level 0-6)” and “Theme Course (Level 1-8)”. Generally, you are free to register for any of the courses available that match your level and interests. However, for undergraduate students there may be recommendations on the types of courses to take. Please check with your school. At Waseda University, all Japanese Language Courses are taught in Japanese, notEnglish, even at the beginner’s level. Without basic knowledge of Japanese, you mayfind it very difficult to follow the classes. We strongly recommend that you learn to readand write all Hiragana & Katakana characters before class starts. Note that it isexpected to take about one month to learn them. Check the CJL website out for useful learning sites. Be sure to give priority to courses offered by your undergraduate/graduate school and to ensure that the workload will not interfere with your research or required courses. https://www.waseda.jp/inst/cjl/en/students/registration/download/ Syllabus contains a lot of important information on class modality, course content, and grading. So, check the syllabus in advance for courses you want to take. There are several types of class modality, “Face-to-Face”, “Hybrid (Face-to-Face & Online)”, “On-demand”, or “Realtime Streaming”.
